The results of the third round of voting by MPs to select a final two who will contest a membership ballot means Sajid Javid survives. Boris Johnson was backed by 143 Tory MPs as he closes in on the support of half of the parliamentary party. Jeremy Hunt narrowly clings on to second place with the backing of 54 votes only three ahead of Michael Gove’s 51. Mr Javid put on extra five votes from the second vote for a tally of 38 but that was enough to beat Mr Stewart’s 27, 10 fewer than the previous round.
