Rory McIlroy missed the 54-hole cut at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in California on Saturday, but he almost went out in spectacular fashion with what would have been an astonishing eagle at the par-five 18th. His ball clattered against the pin but did not drop, a birdie only minor consolation as he signed for a level-par 72 at Pebble Beach to finish on one under, two shots off the cut mark. While Johnson compiled a ho-hum two-under-par 70 at Pebble Beach, Potter flirted with a sub-60 round at nearby Monterey Peninsula, one of three courses used for the event. The left-hander picked up 11 strokes through 15 holes, only to bogey his final two holes for a nine-under 62. The leaders will be able to keep an eye on each other on Sunday when everyone plays the final round on the Pebble Beach host course.
