Rory McIlroy leads Irish challenge at Wentworth despite final-hole distraction

Rory McIlroy is just two shots off the lead following the opening round of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. The former champion carded a five-under par round of 67 today after he found the spark he was looking for with his best ever opening round in the tournament, despite a final hole which was far from picture perfect. Shane Lowry was set to end the day on five-under, or better, but double bogeyed the last to end the day on three-under. Graeme McDowell and Paul Dunne both shot one-under par opening rounds of 71, but Padraig Harrington had a dreadful opening day - carding a six-over par 78. The lead at Wentworth is held by the Dane, Lucas Bjeregaard, on seven-under par.
