Rookie scoring leader Patrik Laine wows fellow all-stars, appears destined for greatness with Winnipeg Jets


LOS ANGELES — The shot that made Patrik Laine into an all-star started simply enough. In his backyard, he had a hockey net and a bucket that held about 50 pucks and a board from which he would launch shot after shot after shot. On Saturday, Laine ranked second in the hardest shot competition with a 101.7 mph blast (Shea Weber won with a 102.8 mph shot). With 40 points in 44 games, the Winnipeg Jets forward is leading all rookies and is tied for 25th in scoring. Jets must 'win' to make playoffs: Laine With 30 games remaining, the Winnipeg Jets are in 12th place coming out of the all-star break.
