LOS ANGELES — The shot that made Patrik Laine into an all-star started simply enough. In his backyard, he had a hockey net and a bucket that held about 50 pucks and a board from which he would launch shot after shot after shot. On Saturday, Laine ranked second in the hardest shot competition with a 101.7 mph blast (Shea Weber won with a 102.8 mph shot). With 40 points in 44 games, the Winnipeg Jets forward is leading all rookies and is tied for 25th in scoring.
