Rongo residents dig on the road after claims of gold desposits 4th August, 2023The construction of the Rongo-Kisii Road has temporarily stalled after residents discovered gold deposits in murram excavated from a road reserve. For the last two days, hundreds of residents have pitched tent at North-Sakwa ward in search of the precious metal as they scramble to make a kill from the rare finding. The residents, who got wind that the murram which had been freshly dug three days ago contained gold ores, invaded the area in large numbers. Atieno confessed to having collected ores the previous day in a 10 litres bucket that fetched her Sh7, 000. Elvis Owino, another Rongo town resident, said he rushed to the road yesterday evening after receiving information that there was gold in the area.
