On the third day of his official visit, Berset travelled to the southeastern district of Cox’s Bazar, where he met Rohingyas at the Kutupalong refugee camp on Tuesday, the Swiss Embassy in Dhaka said in a statement. There are now more than 900,000 Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh after nearly 700,000 fled violence in Myanmar that flared up in late August. Speaking to the local media, Berset said they were working closely with Bangladesh, the UN and other development agencies to respond to the crisis. Before visiting the refugee camp, he went to the state-run hospital in Cox’s Bazar town to officially hand over Swiss contributions, including hospital beds and medical equipment. Berset arrived in Dhaka for a four-day official visit on Sunday.
