Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have played against each other 34 times, including in 21 tournament finals. For the first time, though, the pair of legendary rivals are set to play with each other, as doubles teammates in a tournament pitting Europe against the world. That tournament, the inaugural Laver Cup (named, of course, for Australian tennis titan Rod Laver), is planned for September 2017, and its format will remind many sports fans of golf’s Ryder Cup or President’s Cup. In other words, Europe will be heavily favoured at the Laver Cup, details of which were announced Wednesday. “It’s gonna be very special to be on a team with Roger,” Nadal said Wednesday (via People).
