Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein leaves his home in Bethesda, Md., on Sept. 25. Two White House officials said Tuesday that Trump is unlikely to fire Rosenstein until after the midterms. Rosenstein has generally disputed that reporting, and he told White House officials that he felt McCabe’s recollections were exaggerated. But if McCabe’s description is accurate, that could give Trump good reason to oust the deputy attorney general. The Justice Department had prepared a statement announcing Rosenstein’s departure.
