Rocks moved back after swells at St Clair Beach

PHOTO: PETER MCINTOSHA front-end loader works to reposition large rocks shunted aside by recent powerful swells at St Clair Beach yesterday. Rocks positioned near the St Clair Surf Lifesaving Club ramp to protect the area from erosion had shifted in recent weeks, following big tides and swells, Dunedin City Council coastal specialist Tom Simons-Smith said. Work to reinstate them - and position larger rocks to reshape and widen the wall on the seaward side of the ramp - was expected to take three or four days, at a cost of about $13,000. The ramp would be closed while the work was completed, but alternative access would be available.
