State Highway 1 south of Kaikōura is closed after rocks fell on to a car this afternoon. The incident occurred immediately south of the Parititahi Tunnel about 4.20pm. Police say the car was damaged but the occupant escaped injury. The NZ Transport Agency said the road was blocked and a detour will add about two hours' travel time. In an update about 6.15pm the NZTA said the road would remain closed overnight.
