MANILA, Philippines — One problem of the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte is its inability to listen to different sectors in Philippine society, Vice President Leni Robredo said in a forum in London. Robredo cited the issues hounding the administration’s jeepney modernization program and the rehabilitation of war-torn Marawi City as examples of the Duterte government’s supposed failure to listen to other sectors’ inputs. She also encouraged sectors to continue their push back as the administration had changed directions before due to these efforts. Duterte and Robredo have had a tense relationship in the past, especially after the vice president openly criticized the administration’s bloody crackdown on illegal drugs, the flagship domestic program of the popular president. She said that the drivers are not opposing the government’s jeepney modernization program itself but seek an implementation scheme that would minimize disruption to their livelihood.
