New Delhi, Feb. 27: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will soon use robots designed by IIT Bombay to detect and defuse explosives in Maoist-infested areas. This will add more teeth to our operations," said K. Durga Prasad, the CRPF chief. Sources said the robots, around 4 to 7 feet high, could be controlled from a distance of 10 feet. The robots will take only a few minutes to scan a suspected area or location and confirm if the patch is mined with explosives. But sources said the Maoists still held sway over large swathes of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh.
