The Russos have now revealed that Robert Downey Jr was initially hesitant about saying Tony Stark’s famous last words in the film - ‘I am Iron Man’ - and had to be convinced to return to film the final scene. I had dinner with (Robert Downey Jr.) like two weeks before we were supposed to shoot it. It was longtime Marvel editor Jeff Ford who came up with the idea of having Tony say the words, which were a direct callback to his declaration in the first Iron Man film. The Russos told SlashFilm, “Tony used to not say anything in that moment. RDJ has played Stark/Iron Man in multiple Marvel films, beginning with 2008’s Iron Man.
