The robber also entered the victim’s small hut in the middle of the forest to search for valuables. After finding the hut had nothing precious, the robber fired a shot at the victim’s father and left. His wife, Khun Sriputhong, said the robber made away with her husband’s cellphone and Bt26,000 cash. The victim, identified as Taotad Boontawong, sustained a gunshot wound to his forehead and another on his left hand. Locals said the Lao family was very poor and earned a living doing odd jobs, catching fish, and rummaging for food in the forest.
