Roadworks on the Waimakariri Bridge north of Christchurch have caused long delays on Saturday. Motorists in Christchurch have said traffic is slower than walking speed north of the city, as some experience hour-long delays due to roadworks. An NZ Transport Agency spokeswoman said the Christchurch Northern Corridor motorway was "reduced in capacity", as the motorway team poured concrete on Friday night for the new Waimakariri Bridge decks. North and southbound traffic had to use the northbound bridge across the river on State Highway 1, which only had one lane in each direction. Christchurch City councillor Aaron Keown said on Facebook the traffic was "less than walking speed".
