Roadside drug-testing of drivers chronically overdue

OPINION: It's been a long time coming but the Government's final policy reveal for 2019 was the Road to Zero safety strategy. Admirably, the Associate Transport Minister, with delegated responsibility for road safety, Julie Anne Genter, has revealed the Government's intention to boost funding for road safety initiatives by 25 per cent, or roughly $1 billion annually, over the next 10 years. Roadside saliva-testing to combat the scourge of drug-driving is chronically overdue. It would not be unreasonable to assume that the Greens were dragged kicking and screaming to sign up to roadside testing for drug-driving. I do note that her political brethren across the Tasman, namely the New South Wales Green Party, continue to bleat that roadside testing "perpetuates the war the drugs".
