Road reopened in New Plymouth after reported gas leak

Carrington St, New Plymouth, was temporarily closed after a gas main was accidentally hit. Vogeltown's Carrington St has reopened after a reported gas leak closed part of it. A spokesperson said it was believed a gas main had been ruptured by the use of an auger - a drilling device commonly used dig holes. Powerco confirmed in a press release the gas main was damaged after it was accidentally hit during excavations. Powerco said the road was re-opened at around 2pm but the footpath was still cordoned off.
