Road expansion project resumes, to alleviate commuter suffering

Both sides of the road were dug up from Gollamari Memorial Monument to Zero Point right before work was suspended after two weeks due to the presence of soft soil beneath the road surface. The dug up Sher-e-Bangla Road became quite hazardous for both vehicles and pedestrians, with an accident just waiting to happen, say locals. Ajmal Hossain, a resident of Khulna's Zero Point area, said: “Local commuters are suffering because of the ongoing road development work. Ambia Khatun, a vegetable vendor at Gallamari Bazar, said: “It’s easy to get vegetables from Kaiya Bazar to Zero Point but from there it’s a hassle to get to Gallamari. Anisuzzaman Masud, executive engineer of Khulna RHD, said: “The presence of soft soil found beneath the road surface required the use of a different cement type.
