A planned weekend closure of Line 1 on the TTC has been cancelled due to labour disputes, but commuters will still be plagued with various road closures due to community events this weekend. TTC officials explained that the planned maintenance work on the line is no longer occurring this weekend due to a conflict with the union representing TTC employees, ATU Local 113. On Saturday, the Science Rendezvous, an outdoor science festival started by the University of Toronto, Ryerson University and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) will be taking to the streets. The walk is an event to raise awareness and funds for the prevention of cancer-related deaths in children. On Sunday, the Sporting Life 10k run will be closing down Yonge St. in sections spanning from Lawrence Ave. to Richmond St. as runners complete the course.
