Carrington sT, New Plymouth has been temporarily closed after a gas main was hit accidentally. People are being asked to avoid a section of Carrington St in New Plymouth after a reported gas leak. The road is closed between Essex and Parsons Streets. A spokesperson said it was believed a gas main had been ruptured by the use of an auger - a drilling device commonly used dig holes. Powerco confirmed in a press release the gas main was damaged after it was accidentally hit during excavations.
