To reduce water wastage, railway authorities have installed specially designed aerators inside all basin taps on board the Mumbai-Goa Tejas Express, a luxury train that was introduced last May. The aerators, officials explained, have fine holes that break the flow of water into fine sub-streams, which reduces excess outflow and wastage. The move, by the Central Railway’s Bhusawal division, is expected to reduce water consumption from each tap by a significant 25%. The fitting of aerators was a one-time measure, and they were fitted into the existing taps in Tejas Express, without any modifications or tap replacement, the railway ministry said in a statement. The Tejas Express is the fastest train between Mumbai and Goa, and had become popular among passengers because of its seat-mounted infotainment systems, and large windows with panoramic views.
