Riverwood puts Kenyan film on the map

The Riverwood Ensemble is behind the Riverwood Academy Awards, a cousin of the Kalasha Film and TV awards, the latter also Mwaniki’s brainchild. “At Balozi, we had started marketing films of uptown film makers, at some point with Mary Migwi of Sisimka Productions. In 2010, I met with Wachira Waruru, who was then chief executive of Kenya Film Commission. The film makers are now setting up a Riverwood Channel with Bamba TV, and have found outlets on other continental platforms including Iflix, Showmax, Afmobi, and AfricaXP. Now working on Riverwood full time, Mwaniki is paid agency fees from selling the work of the 300 film makers, some of whom sell up to 200,000 DVD copies each.
