The taskforce has been alongside another one set up by the government. Those behind the rival team claim the task force led by Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri ignored them. At the heart of the tussle which has also split sugarcane farmers are plans to zone millers and privatisation of State owned factories. Kenya National Alliance of Sugarcane Farmers formed the taskforce that has been reviewing laws governing the industry and meeting farmers to collect their views on how to save the sector. The outfit, whose members include former Kenya Sugar Board chairman Saulo Busolo, started its countrywide campaigns two weeks, meeting farmers across western Kenya.
