The weather is to remain unsettled for the next few days, and warnings remain in place for parts of the country following a dumping of snow in the South Island on Friday. A strong wind warning was still in place for Fiordland, and a watch for heavy snow for inland Canterbury had been upgraded to a warning. The South Island had been having a lot of rain, particularly in southern and central parts ; and the rain is expected to gradually spread northwards through Saturday. Inland parts of the South Island has had snow of above 500 meters, which could drop to 400m. State Highway 6, which was closed between Hawea and Haast due to fallen trees and snow on Friday, remains closed.
