Two Blenheim trampers were flown to safety after they were caught out by rising river levels in the Richmond Range. The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter was sent to a beacon activation on Saturday at 3.40pm during the region’s severe weather to fly two Blenheim-based trampers to safer ground. Pilot Barry McAuliffe said the couple were trapped by rising river levels while walking from Porters Creek Hut to Red Hills Hut in the Mount Richmond Forest Park. The pair were flown to Nelson.
