Share:The standoff and the negotiations that followed between the authorities and militants in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) should send alarm bells ringing for our security apparatus. The shock of the incident, and the impact it had on the perception of safety in Pakistan, cannot be overstated. There is reason to believe that there has been a rise in militancy in the north. The government must work with the security forces and devise a comprehensive security plan that has no tolerance for any militancy in the north. There has to be no compromise on this; the news reports have been troubling for a while.
