Valérie Pécresse, centre-right chairwoman of the Paris Regional Council, made the announcement as she promised to step up security to curb a wave of violence among pupils. Cameras have already been installed at the entrance to more than half of the region’s 470 lycées under an annual Eu10 million plan launched by Mrs Pécresse in 2016. Following the rioting in Saint-Denis north of Paris this week, she said cameras would be placed inside lycées to monitor pupils and equipment.
