RIO DE JANEIRO - Rio Games organisers on Saturday apologised for security holdups that left thousands of people queueing to get into Olympic stadiums under baking sun on the first full day of competition. "We apologise to everybody who is standing under the sun and in lines outside of venues," said Rio 2016 organising committee spokesman Mario Andrada. "We were caught like sardines in the bus and there are huge queues here," said Adriana Barbosa who travelled to Rio de Janeiro from Sao Paulo for the weekend. But outside stadiums, volunteers and official security staff appeared unable to keep up with the huge crowds. "We moved people from Rio 2016 to speed up the mag and bag (checks) and within the next hours we will be in much better shape."
