A class-action lawsuit has been filed against the home security system Ring and its parent company, Amazon, accusing them of failing to protect their customers from hackers. Plaintiff John Baker Orange alleges in the lawsuit that last July, someone breached his Ring security cameras and proceeded to comment on his children playing basketball in the yard. Earlier this month, a mother in Tennessee released chilling footage of a hacker pretending to be Santa Claus talking to her eight-year-old daughter through a Ring security camera in her bedroom. The non-profit advocacy group Fight for the Future recently has published a warning saying Ring cameras are not secure. Besides citing the report, the senators noted that Ring devices routinely store video recordings and other data on Amazon servers.
