To bring the idea to life, Li and others said, Singer had turned to Donna Orender, a well-regarded sports executive who, among other jobs, ran the Women’s National Basketball Assn. for several years. Public filings in Florida, where Orender lives, show she and Singer have been collaborating on business ideas since at least 2012.
