Sign up for the EFC email bulletin for all the latest Everton newsThe chair of the UK's Culture, Media and Sport Committee has written to the Premier League’s chief executive Richard Masters asking him to clarify points raised in their oral evidence session with him earlier this month after he appeared to call Everton a “small club.”Everton, who have played a record 121 seasons in English top flight football – some 11 more than closest challengers Aston Villa (the team that Masters is a fan of) – and have won major trophies across nine separate decades, a record that only Liverpool and Manchester United can better, but along with two-times European Cup winners Nottingham Forest, he used a phrase that angered many fans of both outfits when speaking before the Committee to discuss their alleged financial breaches on January 16. She said: “I would also be grateful if you could clarify whether the Premier League will propose the same formula in other cases outside of Everton’s, and how you intend to ensure that any further sanctions applied – particularly following possible changes to rules this year – will be transparent and applied fairly. “Finally, can you assure the Committee that the latest changes against Everton and Nottingham Forest of breaking the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules – taking possible appeals into account – will be resolved before the final round of Premier League fixtures on 19 May 2024?”
