"I have resigned from the post of Gono Forum general secretary and withdrawn from the party. “A press briefing will be held soon to reveal the reasons behind my resignation,” Kibria told Dhaka Tribune later in the day. Kibria also expressed his gratitude to Dr Kamal Hossain and members of the Gono Forum for giving him the chance to serve as the general secretary of the party. On May 5, 2019, he was made general secretary of Gono Forum.
