In a strategic move to enhance the agricultural landscape of Tamil Nadu, the state government has unveiled a comprehensive plan under the Special Scheme for Mukkani Development. This initiative, aimed at the 2024-25 fiscal year, seeks to revitalize mango cultivation alongside promoting jackfruit and banana production. Panneerselvam, detailed the scheme's focus on converting 26,540 acres of aging mango orchards into prolific producers through subsidization. Additionally, the establishment of new mango orchards over 4,630 acres with sought-after southern varieties like Paadiri and Banganapalli, and select export varieties including Ratnagiri Alphonso on 250 acres, is on the agenda. This initiative is supported by a budget of ₹127.3 mln from both central and state funds.
