Though the title may sound like science fiction or some rock-and-roll romp, “Radium Girls” gets its name from the plaintiffs in a real court case about an American tragedy during the Progressive Era. From the 1910s through the ’20s, the United States Radium Corp. (here, “American Radium”) thrived by selling glow-in-the-dark watches with numbers hand-painted with actual radium.
