Review: Burma Superstar alum’s Teni East Kitchen in Oakland

Thanks to eateries such as Burma Superstar and now Oakland’s Teni East Kitchen, the foods of Myanmar are making a delicious impression on Bay Area palates. Teni owner and chef Tiyo Shibabaw hails from Burma Superstar; she managed that restaurant’s two East Bay locations for several years. In a twist, Teni’s Tea Leaf Kale Salad ($9) has baby kale in lieu of cabbage. The yellow curry dipping sauce was similar to the duck curry we’d ordered, so our server advised ordering the roti without the sauce. A yellow garlic, chile, bay leaf and turmeric coconut curry bathes pan-fried rice noodles.
