Eliot’s 1939 poetry collection Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats was arguably the first modern “blockbuster” musical of its era. So, when I say that Tom Hooper’s Cats absolutely captures what’s great and terrible about the show, you can take that for what it’s worth. Whether you think Cats is rum-tum-terrific or rum-tum-terrible is largely about whether you have any interest in a Cats movie. If you wanted a star-studded Cats movie, well, here you go.
