Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie in 'Bombshell' LionsgateThe story of sexual harassment allegations that took down Fox News boss Roger Ailes refuses to seriously confront the potentially fascinating moral conundrums at its core. Bombshell, a post #MeToo melodrama about the employees at Fox News who eventually spoke out and caused the resignation of Roger Ailes from the network he helped create, certainly had potential for fascinating storytelling. No, working at Fox News, even being instrumental in mainstreaming ideas and behavior that may have led to (or encouraged) sexual harassment, doesn’t make one deserving of such treatment. Bombshell is afraid to interrogate the question of why this story specifically is the one that got a movie in the post-#TimesUp era. Theron and Kidman are solid, and Robbie shines as the most interesting of the leading trio of whistle blowers.
