NEW DELHI: Municipal bodies across states are dependent more on central and state grants to run their shows, according to an analysis done by a Bengaluru-based not-for-profit think tank on urban governance. On an average, revenues of municipalities is less than 37% of their total receipts, according to the study. Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy released its Annul Survey of India's City Systems on Friday. Only three states - Andhra Pradesh , Goa and Punjab - recorded more than 50% share of own revenues. It has recommended that the focus must also shift to the smaller cities and towns in order to bridge the gap in per capita spend.
