Ranchi, March 1: A revenue employee of Palamau was arrested today for masterminding an incredible bank cheque racket to swindle the district administration of nearly a crore in just six months in connivance with suppliers. Police rounded up Shailesh Kumar (48), who was transferred from the Daltonganj headquarters to Chainpur block in June last year, from his residence in the town. On how the revenue employee ran the racket, the DC said he meticulously fudged figures on signed cheques. So, Rs 20,000 became Rs 1,20,000; Rs 54,000 became Rs 1,54,000; and Rs 25,303 became Rs 7,25,303," he cited examples. "The arrested revenue employee is being grilled by senior officers for other financial anomalies that are yet to come to light," the policeman said.
