Graham Christensen might not have picked up a paint brush until his 60s, but he's now casting a fresh take on the allure of Manawatū's rural landscape. A retired farmer, Christensen, 72, is drawing on his lifetime in agriculture to paint scenes of shearing gangs, farmers and their working dogs, wool sheds, rural landscapes and, of course, Fridays at the Feilding Saleyards. His exhibition, the charm of rural Manawatū, runs throughout August at the Feilding and District Art Society. Born in Marton and raised in Feilding, Christensen spent many of his teenage years working in shearing gangs and picking up hay.
