Tuquib passed away on Thursday, August 1, after a lingering illness. In 1973, he was appointed as the first bishop of Pagadian, a post that he held until 1984 when he was named coadjutor archbishop of Cagayan de Oro. In 1988, he was named as the archbishop of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro, succeeding retired Archbishop Patrick Henry Cronin. Tuquib led a successful protest action against the opening of a gambling casino in a local hotel in CDO.
