It would appear that two major gaps need to be filled in the knowledge of opponents of restructuring like Shettima and his ilk. One has to with the meaning of restructuring and the other with the global context of national restructuring. An interesting feature of Roosevelt’s New Nationalism is the idea that the nation is the best instrument for advancing progressive democracy. In Africa, the New Nationalism is associated largely with the right to self-determination and opposition to centrist tendencies within each state. It is for these reasons that the New Nationalism has been dubbed variously as “neo-tribal” or “ethnic” nationalism.
