Ramsey Lewis (May 27,1935-September 12, 2022)Jazz pianist, three-time Grammy winner and NEA Jazz Master Ramsey Lewis, died at his home in Chicago on Sept. 12. Born in Chicago and raised in the Cabrini Green housing project, Ramsey E.Lewis, Jr. began taking piano lessons at age 4. In 1956, the Ramsey Lewis Trio released their first album, Ramsey Lewis and His Gentlemen of Jazz. His big break through came in 1965 with the crossover hit “The In Crowd,” which won him his first Grammy. In 2007, Lewis received the National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master Award.
