A restorative weekend lie-in really can help you recover from a sleepless and stressful working week, a study suggests. The conventional advice states that people who get seven or eight hours’ sleep a night are healthiest, and changing sleep duration over the course of a week confuses your body clock. It found that those who got fewer than five hours were significantly less healthy. Those who got more than eight hours also had worse health, possibly because it meant they had an underlying condition. However, those with short sleep in the week and longer sleep at the weekends were no less healthy, the Karolinska Institute found.
