Respiratory infections other than Covid-19 are filling up pediatric wards

(CNN) Texas Children's Hospital is seeing a surge of coronavirus cases -- nearly all of them caused by the Delta variant. On top of it, many are infected with a second virus at the same time -- usually respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV. A fresh surge of Covid-19 is colliding with an unseasonable epidemic of RSV, and it's landing kids in hospitals across the country. "We are definitely seeing more RSV," Dr. Joshua Schaffzin, director of infection prevention and control at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, told CNN. It's the most common cause of the common cold, so it is unusual that we're seeing children get sicker than we'd expect.
