The Horseshoe Lake Reserve walk has been closed since the Canterbury earthquake. Where other parts of the Christchurch residential red zone have been maintained and used for recreation, the Horseshoe Lake walkway has deteriorated so much since the Canterbury earthquakes people can no longer access it. The council sought public feedback in mid-2017 on possible upgrades to the Horseshoe Lake area.
