Research winery to explore benefits of regenerative practices

A research project run by a Marlborough institute will see if wineries and wine drinkers are interested in practices that restore vineyard soils. Research was not about how to undertake best practice, but would explore whether there was a market opportunity for regenerative wine. “Regenerative agriculture practices and principles could help us achieve this goal and achieve our other sustainability commitments.”RICKY WILSON/STUFF Regenerative wine used practices that restored degraded soil, improved biodiversity and increased carbon capture to create long-lasting environmental benefits. “The most significant output from this research will be the assessment for the potential for regenerative agriculture to boost income, market access and agri-environmental management practices,” Barry said. Farmer Greg Hart practices regenerative farming and says public awareness is growing.
