Divers were sifting through dump when they found the body, around 10:50am, said Fire Service Control Room official Atikur Rahman. The child lived with his family in one of the huts lining the sewer line. His family, having failed to trace him, assumed he had fallen into the canal. The search stretched to its second day on Friday, when ‘Sabbir’ was found within a garbage dump in the canal near the Dhaka Commerce College. He was reportedly playing next to it around 4pm on Thursday while there was a light drizzle, Rahman had said earlier.
