Reputed drug cartel money manager arrested in Mexico

The Mexican government announced Friday the arrest of a reputed financial manager with the drug cartel thought to be behind this week's kidnapping of the son of jailed kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman. The arrest is expected to "significantly" affect the Cartel's operational and financial structure, he said, adding that Sergio N. is likely to be charged with drug trafficking and racketeering. Sergio N. was implicated in the 2008 murder of a state official and "coordinated the production of methamphetamines" for a criminal organization, the commission chief said. The suspect was a "very important" piece in the Cartel's links to politicians and businesspeople in metropolitan Guadalajara, Jalisco state Attorney General Eduardo Almaguer said. Authorities said earlier that the kidnapping was carried out by seven gunmen from the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion, apparently to settle scores with Chapo's Sinaloa cartel.
