"Besides assessing water bodies, the report also for the first time listed number of forest fires across the country. It reported that Arunachal Pradesh has maximum carbon stock followed by Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.The India State of Forest Report 2017 also contains information on mangrove cover. It shows that the total mangrove cover stands at 4,921 sq km in the country which is nearly 3.3% of the world's mangrove vegetation. It has shown an increase of 181 sq km in 2017 as compared to the last assessment. "All the 12 mangrove states have shown a positive change in the mangrove cover, as compared to the last assessment.
